worm or beetle in floor?
We have oak hardwood floors, house 24 yrs old, seeing more and more holes in hardwood floor. Looks like a little black hole. Is it a worm or beetle? What is the treatment? Will refinishing solve the problem or does it need to be treated first? What does the worm or beetle look like and can I see them on the floor?
I suggest you read our POWDERPOST BEETLE CONTROL article which will explain more about this pest and what you need to control the activity. As you’ll learn, the holes you’re finding are adults which are leaving the wood. In fact the larvae live in the wood and do all the damage which is why you’ll need to treat as explained in our article.

Here are some specific answers to your questions:
The pest is a beetle, the treatment must be done with BORACARE and refinishing the wood will not take care of the infestations.
Lastly, the beetle is a small creature and tends to be found around windows and lights which adults fly too after the emerge from the floor.
