I just found your site and have a problem similar to the person that wrote in about having a cabin treated in Georgia. We have a mountain home in Brevard NC and have been told we have powder post beetles and the treatment will be $10,000.00 -we definitely want a 2nd or 3rd opinion. Any advice you can share will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I suggest you first read through our POWDERPOST BEETLE CONTROL ARTICLE so you can learn more about this destructive pest. In our article we list treatment options and the one commonly mentioned product for most treatments is the BORACARE. Used by many professionals, it’s very effective on all wood destroying pests like Powder Post Beetles and treatments will have a long lasting residual. Alternatively, fumigating won’t provide any residual which means the structure will be prone to reinfestation right after it’s tented. For most situations, this is not the best option.
Once you see that using a product like Boracare does in fact make a lot of sense for long term control, you’ll then be more inclined to get other quotes from companies that would be willing to use such a product. And once you get those quotes, you can compare to see if having them do the work makes sense or if you prefer to get the product from us and do the work yourself. No doubt this will involve some energy and effort but in the end the savings can be dramatic and for many people, a valid approach to solving this kind of problem.
