old barn timbers with powderpost beetles

I have a piece of furniture that I’m building from old barn timbers and believe I may have a problem with powderpost beetles. I applied a Borax solution to all sides of the timbers prior to construction of the furniture top in effort to kill any insects. I have already applied 5 coats of lacquer to the top of this piece and am suddenly seeing a few borer holes. The underside of this furniture top is still bare wood.

If I treat the bare underside of this piece with BoraCare, will that take care of my problem? I assume it would not be recommended for use on the lacquered side? The piece is 2 feet by 10 feet, and approximately 2 1/2 inches thick. I’m hoping BoraCare will be able to penetrate all the way through from the unfinished side….without altering/damaging the laquered side. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you for your time! Kind regards, Lori

In fact the BORACARE should be able to penetrate and do the job fine. We have found it can penetrate up to 4 inches from one side so the 2.5 inch thick would should be no problem.

We have had the beetles treated once with a spray. Should we have it treated every five years or so? They were discovered in our old barn when property was inspected five years ago.
